Who me?
Hi, I’m Jayla—an educator, program strategist, and lifelong learner who believes that the best learning experiences are designed with real people in mind.
I grew up in Baltimore, earned a bachelor’s in history, and went on to earn my master’s in education. But school was never easy for me. As a neurodivergent thinker, I’ve always had to approach the world—and learning—differently. That challenge became my lifelong passion: creating learning that works for different brains, different backgrounds, and different life experiences.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve built a career at the intersection of education, technology, and equity. I’ve worked as a classroom teacher, a district coach, and a senior program manager at one of the world’s largest tech companies. I’ve led global learning initiatives for 30,000+ users, coached teams through system launches, and written the kind of training docs that make people say, “Ohhh… now I get it.”
One of my proudest moments was helping hundreds of tech-averse teachers across Tacoma Public Schools shift to fully virtual instruction in 2020—during a moment that asked the absolute most of educators. Another was designing a seamless in-app onboarding and continuous learning experience for global users at Amazon. But my favorite achievement? Running into a former student who still remembers something I taught them. That always hits different.
When I’m not designing learning systems or driving strategy, you’ll probably find me gardening, watching sports, or planning my next adventure. Traveling has taught me almost as much as formal education—whether it was standing on the Great Wall of China or watching young elephants splash around in a lake in Kenya.
At my core, I’m someone who believes that learning—when it’s done right—has the power to change lives. And I’m here to keep building that kind of learning, wherever I go.
